Scotland, Alexander III Farthing, 2nd coinage Military mintScotland, Alexander III (1249 1286), silver Farthing, second coinage (1280 86), initial mark plain cross, inner and outer toothed borders, crowned best left with fleur tipped sceptre, reads LEXNDER REX, rev. long cross, four mullets of six points in angles, reads SCOTORVM, weight 0. 37g (SCBI Scottish coins 35: 291 3; Burns 1, fig. 196; S 5063). Neatly struck on a rounded flan with some good detail, free from any of the usual edge chips, a charming
