While the request we received was to reassign cases reporting ultrasound accelerated thrombolysis (USAT) with the administration of thrombolytic(s) for the treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE) from MS-DRGs 166, 167, and 168 to MS-DRGs 163, 164, and 165, based on our findings that suggest the administration of thrombolytic(s) is not a significant factor in the consumption of resources for those cases or that a code describing the administration of thrombolytic(s) may not have been consistently reported on a subset of claims that also reported a code identifying USAT was performed, we then analyzed claims data from the September 2022 update of the FY 2022 MedPAR file for all cases in MS-DRGs 163, 164, and 165 and compared it to the cases reporting a principal diagnosis of PE and USAT procedure with or without thrombolytic(s) in MS-DRGs 166, 167, and 168
