Capes of this type were designed to keep out rainwater

Despite its age

this dress is a remarkable piece for collectors of 19th‑century textiles

It must have cost a fortune in 1855 - if only because of the fabric

Powder Compact, England, ca. 1931 #porzellanKaiserWilhelmII Capes of this type wereThis compact depicts a little girl with a rattle, hood and a child's dress: Princess Margaret Rose of York. Roses can be seen in the background. This is probably an allusion to the princess's name. She is the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II and daughter of King George VI. Princess Margaret was born on August 21, 1930, in Glamis Castle, United Kingdom. She is probably about a year old in the compact portrait. The compact is in very good condition.
